KYC stands for Know Your Customer. KYC controls are used to establish and verify customer identity, understand the nature and purpose of a relationship, assess customer risk and support ongoing monitoring. KYC is a component of broader financial crime risk management and is closely related to AML, but KYC and AML are not interchangeable terms. Staff must use the approved customer due-diligence procedure for operational decisions.

Answers come only from the governed library and are decision support, not legal advice. Verify regulatory content against the regulator's current publication.
