FATCA stands for the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, a United States tax information reporting regime. Financial institutions may have FATCA due-diligence, classification and reporting obligations depending on their status, customers and applicable intergovernmental arrangements. FATCA is not the same as AML: FATCA primarily addresses tax transparency and reporting, while AML controls address money laundering and related financial crime risks. Staff must apply the organisation's approved FATCA procedures and obtain specialist tax or compliance advice where applicability is uncertain.
