Enhanced customer due diligence (ECDD) plays an important role in detecting, disrupting and preventing money laundering and terrorism financing. Enhanced CDD measures must be targeted to the customer’s specific ML/TF risks, proportionate to the risk level, effective at managing and mitigating the risk, and appropriate to the duration of the risk. AML/CTF policies must set out the policies, procedures, systems and controls for applying enhanced CDD. Policies are expected to state when different enhanced CDD measures apply, who is responsible, how effectiveness is monitored and reviewed, and how tipping-off obligations are managed.
